The goal of Astrology Research Project (ARP) is to explore and test new methods and ideas in astrology. Its focus is on the astronomical aspects of astrology, on producing and comparing different types of horoscopes, and on providing techniques for astrologers to use in analysis. This website does not provide any interpretations and it requires users have at least a good basic understanding of astrology.
ARP was prompted by the development of a new method to calculate astrological houses, called Platypus.
There have been many house systems over astrology's long history, but none have managed to gain universal acceptance. The most widely used system in Western astrology today is Placidus. There are serious problems with Placidus beyond the polar circles. Even at higher latitudes it produces results that are so extreme as to be questionable.
Platypus provides a solution which, at equatorial to mid-latitudes, is not wildly dissimilar to Placidus. It is comprehensive, it works over the whole Earth. It is mathematically elegant. Here you can learn about it, test it out, assess its results and compare it either to Placidus or a number of the other more widely used systems.
Platypus is ARP's first new method and with it comes a new idea that redefines the Ascendant in the polar regions. You can expect more new methods and ideas to follow.
